Principal's Letter

Dear Parents,

Grass. I think about it often. It is a simple gift from God, which brings many pleasures. On our field we have picnics, recess, field day, sporting events and the carnival on the grass. When the children are not present, I have been known to walk barefoot and play with Brinkley on the grass. Grass is an amazing form of plant life. It is durable and as long as it is watered and cared for, it will last for a long time. The grass in our field has been around for fifty years or more. It was probably planted by a group of OLV parents in the late fifties or early sixties. It was started with seed and nurtured with water, fertilizer, soil, and sun. Eventually, the grass took root and was sturdy enough for the children to play on. As the grass grew, some of the roots connected and became a unit. We are just like that grass- hardy, nurtured, durable, and connected to each other.

The Parent Club Luau was a perfect example of this connection. At least two hundred past, present, and future OLV families showed up to Friday night’s event! The idea for the luau came from our Parent Club president, Elena Sanders, and was chaired by Patricia Benavides and Alvina Gonzalez. Thank you ladies! They had plenty of help setting up, serving food, running the games, and cleaning up from the rest of the parent club board. Way to go team! I saw many new families enjoying the food and the company. Hopefully they learned a little more about the Our Lady of Victory School community and felt like they were part of the family. Adding their own special touch to the night was a group of alumni parents, whose presence reminded me that once an OLV parent always an OLV parent. Of course all of this took place on the grass!

On a final note…the grass this year is especially green and lush. Maybe it is God’s way of reminding us that even in tough times we can flourish. Have a blessed week! Go in peace and run on the grass!

Sincerely,

Deborah J. V. Nettell
