Dear Parents,
I woke up this morning tired and depressed. I felt overwhelmed, overweight, overextended, and over the hill. To make matters worse I am on a Pepsi free diet and I wasn’t prepared for how hard it would be to give it up. With no caffeine in my system I drug myself to work wondering how I was going to make it through the day. When I arrived I looked out onto the grotto and saw that the leaf had fallen off of Alek Trukki’s tree. Then I knew…I was not hanging in there! I said a silent prayer and put my cares in God’s pocket and in the single moment my day changed. AS I walked to the 8th grade classroom I felt invigorated by the fresh air. Next I found the book that I had been looking for the past few days, and I was relieved when it was found. Lastly I read a joke that made me laugh. I shared it with the teaching staff and they laughed too. With the laughter came new energy. Yes, with God all things are possible, even hanging in there.
Monsignor and I are concerned about the way our children dress at Mass. Although our students are wearing the formal uniform they don’t look as well dressed as they could when they wear boots, Uggs, Capri stockings, dirty jackets, and florescent colored tennis shoes. Please, on Fridays make sure your child is wearing a clean uniform, tie, and clean shoes. I would prefer that the students do not wear boots of any kind, including Uggs, on Mass days. When your child complains about his tell them to hang in there, the school year is half over. Soon, I will be asking the school board to make changes in the uniform dress code for next year. If you would like your voice heard on this subject we will be discussing it on Friday at Pan Dulce with the Principal. Everyone is welcome to come, eat, and share.
Catholic School’s Week was great fun! Tuesday I enjoyed watching Jacob Crask and Ceilo Benevides do my job. It has been a long time since I spent a day with second graders and I forgot how much energy it takes to keep up with them. The boys were wonderful, insightful, and they both have leadership qualities that will take them a long way in life. Thursday’s talent show was a delight to watch . I had no idea how much talent our students posses. They sang, danced, recited, and played musical instruments. My favorite moment was watching Mrs. Kennedy play the spoons. She is a class act!
On a final note…from the book, Laugh a Day!, “God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts.” Go in peace and don’t run in the halls.
Sincerely,
Deborah Nettell

School Song
Here's to the school that we love best of all
Here's to the red and white may it never fall
We'll do our best to keep it going well
And for the REBELS we will yell! Yell! Yell!
We're going to fight, fight, fight, for every game
And lead the red and white right on to fame
We're going to carry on to victory, victory,
Our Lady of Victory!
